I picked up on it, except... it wasn't really a Halo referance, almost every sci-fi thing ever has people unable to make jumps to... whatever they call it in that sci-fi thing near planets. Take Starwars for instance, they have to go out a certain amount before they can jump to hyperspace. Or Warhammer 40k where they have to move out of the system to punch into the Warp... or Ender's Game where... there isn't faster then light travel... bad example ><
